Empowering the Community: NAACP Mecklenburg Branch Career Day

Mecklenburg Branch hosted a Career Day event on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at the Estes Center in Chase City.  Dr. Earnadette Powell Farrer, education chair for the NAACP branch, coordinated the event.  Representatives from a broad spectrum of industries attended and topics such as how each ended up in their career field.  After presentations by over one dozen professionals, attendees were able to visit with the speakers and visit information tables staffed by various organizations.  Information tables included the Mecklenburg County Emergency Services, Emergency Communication Center, Southside VA Democracy Center, Department of Corrections, Small Business Administration Small Business Development Center (SBASBDC).  Speakers demonstrated the variety of opportunities in our area as they represented multiple career paths including information technology, multiple different fields of nursing and medicine, research, education, corrections, emergency management and emergency communication services, small business development, real estate, non-profits, and more.
